Big C is hosting an event exploring 20 years of innovating cancer research, funded by the local cancer charity at the Norwich Research Park.
The event takes place on Monday April 17th from 12pm to 3.30pm at the UEA’s Thomas Paine Study Centre and is open to anyone with an interest in the subject. This free event is being co-hosted by Big C and leading UEA and other Norwich based cancer scientists.
Come along to:
*Hear from and meet Norwich’s world-class cancer researchers
*Discover how Big C funded research happening here in Norfolk has led to globally significant new cancer treatments and improved diagnosis
*Find out how donations from local supporters enable cutting edge research
*And why are we eating broccoli soup?…
The event will be hosted by Dr Chris Bushby, CEO of Big C and Professor Dylan Edwards, Chair of Big C and retired UEA Pro-Vice Chancellor and Chair of cancer studies. Presentations will take place from 12pm to 1.15pm and 2.30pm to 3.30pm, with a chance to speak to scientists at a ‘Meet the Scientist’ event in between sessions. Light refreshments will be served.
Dr Chris Bushby, Chief Executive of Big C said, “Many in the region are aware of Big C’s cancer support centres and help for those affected by cancer in our area. Lesser known is the charity’s investment into ground-breaking cancer research taking place at the Norwich Research Park, where we also have our head office at the heart of the local science community.
“Unusually for a local, independent, charity, Big C has awarded grants for research since the early days of the organisation. Over the past seven years alone, Big C has invested £2.1 million into cancer research at the Norwich Research Park. These projects have resulted in transformative advances in bowel, prostate and blood cancers amongst others, making a local, national and international difference in the work against cancer now and for tomorrow. Many thanks to UEA Professor Dan Brewer for his help in organising this event.”
