How often do you find yourself thinking ‘there are just not enough hours in the day’?
How many of the following apply to you…
I’m always busy but feel like I’m not getting enough done My to-do list just gets longer and longer I seem to get pulled from pillar to post in the office and the phone never stops ringing There are important things I need to address but they always get bumped down the list
Could you use a day away to catch up on those important but ignored tasks? If the answer is ‘yes’, then join like-minded Directors at our inaugural Directors Haven.
Set in the picturesque countryside of Burnham Market, North Norfolk, this 16th Century coaching inn is the ideal location to catch up on those important parts of your business without the interruptions of office or home life. Tackle the tasks that can make a real difference to your business and dedicate time to reflecting on where your business is, where it’s going and how you’re going to get there.
At The Hoste hotel you will find everything you need to enable you to relax, re-energise and return to work with a new lease of life – from fantastic food and drink, luxurious rooms, a sumptuous spa and, most importantly, time and space. There is also a meeting room booked for the duration of the event with free WiFi so you can work wherever you feel most comfortable.
Our haven begins on the evening of the 24th November, with the option of an evening meal in The Hoste’s elegant restaurant with other Directors from across the county and the opportunity to swap stories on how to be effective at the helm of a healthy business.
The next morning there will be a complimentary breakfast and the day to spend as you please. If you choose to work, there are plenty of secluded spots around the hotel providing the privacy to work, like the hotel’s residents’ lounge which has comfortable sofas and spacious tables. Or, you could take a walk (or even hire a bicycle!) through the delightful market town. The in-hotel spa is also a great way to relax and unwind. A complimentary lunch will be served in the afternoon and you will have full use of the private meeting room should you wish to join other Directors and work, away from the distractions that come with the day-to-day running of your business.
You can book your place at Directors Haven here. If you would prefer to pay by invoice, rather than through Eventbrite and paypal, please email your request to paul@nakedelement.co.uk
This event is sponsored by Sandler Training.
With so many of us working from home during the lockdown, we have all no doubt become very familiar with our pets. This session demonstrates how you can create a drawing of your cat or dog. Using simple techniques, you will learn how to capture your favourite pet on paper. This allows you to step back from ‘work’ for a short period and immerse yourself in a task that you may not do very often, allowing yourself time to concentrate on the simple act of drawing. This is something that Owen feels is good for mental health and wellbeing in these uncertain times.
Attendees will learn how to tackle a blank piece of paper and capture a likeness of their pet with just a pen or pencil. Subjects such as composition, proportion and mark making will be covered, along with the broader subject of freeing yourself up to not worry about mistakes or ‘correct’ ways to draw. We will work through drawing your pet from a photo through a live demonstration. Drawings can then be shared and discussed at the end of the session. All proceeds that are raised from this creative session will be donated to Kickstart Norfolk.
Cancellation policy
We only have a maximum of 12 places on this event. As all funds are being donated to Kickstart Norfolk we won’t be able to offer you a refund. Please notify us if you are no longer able to attend in writing to hello@norfolkchambers.co.uk

Norwich Castle’s autumn exhibition, Build Your Own: Tools for Sharing offers an exciting interactive experience for visitors and a fascinating insight into today’s making revolution. It features neurotic robots that can manage your garden, a global network producing prosthetic hands created by 3D printing, and explores new ways of repairing city spaces, empowering communities and reflecting local craft traditions.
Crafts have underpinned our local communities for centuries but now the traditional tools are changing with the advent of modern technologies. Build Your Own is about celebrating making and the use of both old and new tools.
Co-produced by FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), in collaboration with the Crafts Council and Norfolk Museums Service, the exhibition features specially commissioned works by leading makers, creative technologists and collectives, all of whom embrace the ethos of co-creation.
A key element of the show is the special ‘maker space’ in the gallery which presents demonstrations and workshops by local artists and staff and students from Norwich University of the Arts, plus there’s a chance to experiment with exhibition sponsor’s HP’s amazing new computer system ‘the sprout’.
Anyone interested in new technology, craft and how people can use both to improve their communities will find the show fascinating.

Chamber Co.nnects are monthly network meetings for its members to network and chat with other businesses in a digital space.
We believe networking is key during difficult times to help with mental health, continuation of business and access to help and advice from peers. Each network meeting will have 1-2 guest speakers and will be focusing on a current topic.
Enjoy from the comfort of your own home with no early starts or commute and make sure to make a coffee and bring a smile to this online video meeting.
Who’s it for?
Business owners, managers, entrepreneurs, start-ups, young businesses and anyone who wants to connect and engage with other businesses in the Norfolk area.
Topic – How staying connected can lead to new business
Hear from two of our new members who attended their first Chamber Co.nnect. From this, they made a new connection and are now working together. Since the start of last year, Moment Digital Live has been providing live streaming events for several global organisations. Their website has always felt homemade and was not high in Google’s rankings. They had been considering getting it upgraded when they met Josh through Chamber Co.nnect.
Using our latest work with Moment Digital Live as a live case study, East Coast Design Studio will go through their website design and launch process from start to finish. Highlighting what they do, why they do it, and how they can apply their knowledge to your website and business.

Humanizing Tech :Karen Longdin
Being brilliant technically is only half the battle when it comes to being successful within a business. An exploration of how to humanize technology to two ends:
-To converse with your business, get your point heard and your projects sponsored.
-And to manage and lead other technical people and teams who may know more, better or different to you; what happens when your technical knowledge is no longer enough?
Karen Longdin
As Head of IT Development and Architecture for Wyndham Vacation Rentals UK, Karen heads up a team of developers and QA engineers working across Web, back end, reporting and third party systems. Previously having been Head of IT at Stansted Airport and Acting IT Director of Suffolk Police Karen has worked across a variety of industries both private and public sector with a mix of internal and outsource arrangements and across the breadth of technical disciplines. Beginning her career in software testing and moving through various process disciplines most of Karen’s work has been enabled by great business relationships looking for outcomes that work on both sides of the fence. Having been responsible for some heavy weight austerity driven programmes and then the technical separation of Stansted Airport from Heathrow post sale, working now in an environment that is driving investment for profit is a breath of fresh air and allows some much needed time to reflect on, and share, some of the skills and tips Karen’s gained over the years.

Engaging children in technology – the micro:bit satellite inventors kit
The original BBC Micro enabled and inspired many of us to start programming and pursue a technical further education and career. With the BBC microbit, the BBC are trying to inspire the current generation of young people to get creative with technology. The microbit is a ‘thing’ in the Internet of Things era. This breakfast meeting will introduce you to the microbit, enable you to get hands on programming (if you want to bring your laptop), and present the ambitious plans behind the Satellite Inventors Kit for microbit which brings science and technology together with an exciting Space context.
Although schools can obtain microbits for free, and there has been tremendous effort producing lesson plans for teachers, the fundamental state of our education system requires the support of the skilled technical community. We need to step up and support our teachers, schools and pupils by helping to deliver technical materials. It would be a fantastic outcome of this meeting if we could start a movement in Norfolk to do this, your input on how is most welcome!
