This practical event will introduce you to the fundamentals of employing people. It maps the employment relationship from recruitment, issuing contracts, managing holidays, dealing with absence, discipline and grievance matters through to ending the employment relationship. A helpful tool kit of sample policies and letters is provided to delegates for use in their workplace.
You’ve been successful in running your business so far, but maybe now you need help hiring and managing people. Or perhaps your manager has given you the job of dealing with all things HR in your company, you are new to it and don’t know where to start. To help, we have put together the essentials of HR and employment relations into a convenient training session which distils a lot of what you need to know into a one day event. This course assumes no prior learning and is very much focused on the key building blocks needed for the HR function. Discussions based around practical case studies will be a central element of the course content. There will be informal discussion opportunities and practical exercises throughout the day to encourage active delegate participation.
We will provide up to date Covid health and safety information nearer the training date and will be working with venues to ensure a safe environment for our delegates. We will expect delegates to comply with all appropriate safety measures.
All delegates will receive an electronic certificate of attendance for their participation in the training.

Guests will be transported back in time to the glamorous ‘roaring twenties’ for an evening of fun and dance. Entertainment includes a drinks reception on the lawn, four course dinner, charity auction and raffle.
Funds raised from the Royal Norfolk Show Ball will go towards a new Big C Community Centre in central Norwich which is scheduled to open in spring 2019. The four existing Big C Centres in Kings Lynn, Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) provide emotional and practical support and information for anyone affected by cancer in the local community. Each year approximately 8,000 people are given a cancer diagnosis in Norfolk and Waveney. In 2016, the number of visits to Big C’s centres increased by 12%, compared to the previous year.
In 2015, over 1,000 people in Norwich were diagnosed with cancer. Currently the Norwich area is served by Big C’s acute centre at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, which last year provided support more than 15,000 times.
Dr Chris Bushby, Chief Executive at Big C says “The 1920s is a fascinating and glamorous era and the ball promises to be a fabulous event. Cancer affects us all in different ways and supporting people affected by cancer is integral in optimizing their health and wellbeing. Big C has a long history of providing outstanding services to help people through their cancer journey. This new community centre, in addition to our current centre at the hospital, will mean that more people will be able to access Big C support where and when they need us most.”
The 2018 Royal Norfolk Show Ball will be held at the Norfolk Showground on Friday 22nd June.
Tickets are now on sale for the event, please visit norfolkshow.big-c.co.uk to find out more.
Over the StartUpCycle weekend, teams will come up with initiatives that will ditch landfill and form a circular economy instead: better for the planet and the pocket.
Using Sync the City‘s can-do attitude and hackathon expertise, and Norwich BID‘s knowledge of Norwich’s rubbish, you’ll work together in teams to figure out practical solutions to our big waste problem. It’s not just about Norwich – this event is part of an EU funded project, and by participating and presenting your Upcycle Start-Up, you’ll reach businesses across Europe, and could build something that will help change the world.
Norwich BID have already completed a large audit of over 300 companies, and identified valuable forms of waste (such as Coffee Grounds, Cardboard, Optician Lenses, Food Waste, Textiles, Polywrap, Pallets, Orange peel and post juiced oranges, Wasted Hops, Coffee Cups, Carpet, Glass Offcuts & more). These waste streams are not currently being used in a commercial way, but they should be: to save the money and help save the planet.
To get you inspired. Have you heard about UEA student George Bailey? He created a startup that creates spectacles that are upcycled from fishing nets, check it out here.
You’ll also benefit from expert mentoring, amazing networking opportunities, and develop plenty of professional skills: from presenting to problem-solving, with lots in between. Plus, you could win up to £4000 in prize money.
Over 48 hours, teams of 6-8 people will work together to build and launch an UpCycle startup, which transforms waste from local businesses into something new and valuable. We need you, whether you’re a tech expert, eco-warrior, or marketing pro: we’re looking for people who want to make things happen and be part of a more sustainable future. You don’t need any specific skills or upcycling knowledge to get involved, just willingness to jump in at the deep end.
