BIPC: Spotlight: Protecting your Idea
About this Event
Spotlight: Protecting your Idea – An Introduction to Intellectual Property.
Everyone owns the right to their own creativity so knowing what’s protected in your business and what’s not is essential. Intellectual Property (IP) is any original creation that can be bought or sold. If you are a business person, an inventor, an artist or an author, IP will affect you.
In this session we’ll focus on four key areas of intellectual property: design, patent, copyright and trademark. There will be an introduction of each area with some discussion of how to recognize your IP and how best to protect it. We will then discuss some of the difficulties faced such as concepts and methodologies, with a Q&A to finish.
This is one of a series of free Spotlight bitesize business courses that are run by the BIPC Norfolk, Norfolk & Norwich Millennium Library. Booking is essential.
You do not need to visit the library to attend, details of how to join this online event will be sent out nearer to the event itself.

BIPC: Reset. Restart: Workshop – Building customer relationships
About this Event
We know this is a difficult time for small businesses and business owners. That’s why we’ve developed a free dedicated programme of business support that can be accessed remotely, wherever you are. Reset. Restart is open to all business owners, especially those in the first years of trading.
Alongside the national Reset. Restart programme run by the British Library Business & IP Centre, we are offering a series of free local 1-to-1 support sessions, workshops and networking events – all delivered by MENTA
Building Customer Relationships
We all know that ‘people buy people’ first, but how much thought do we give to the way in which we build those first impressions and establish long-lasting and loyal relationships with our customers?
This workshop shares some very simple tools and techniques to do just that, so that we can deliberately and consistently put the customer at the heart of all we do.
This is one of a series of five workshops – you’ll find details of the others on our main Eventbrite page.

Looking at the numbers: Re-adjusting and re-assessing your cost base
It’s very easy for us to ‘do what we’ve always done’ and expect to ‘get what we’ve always got’! In these challenging and turbulent times though, it is crucial to take a step back and re-evaluate whether we are doing things in the most efficient and effective manner.
At a time when growing income can be so tough, this session gives you time and opportunity to re-assess your business, your plans and/or ideas to ensure you have the right balance with your financials and look at ways you might improve your cost base.

Brexit: opportunities and challenges for small business
What will Brexit mean for our small businesses?
As the negotiations move into a critical phase, the Federation of Small Business, along with partners Future50 and UEA, invite you to a debate on the UK’s future outside the European Union, and the challenges and opportunities that it will bring for our small firms.
